Eroglu Receives Germany Turkish Association Initiative Award

Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu has said that the Turks of Cyprus are happy to live under the roof of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus but added that they are also in favour of a just and lasting political agreement that will maintain Turkey’s guarantorship on the island.

“Turkey is protecting our security” he said while receiving a delegation from Germany’s Turkish Associations’ Initiative.

Prime Minister Eroglu pointed to the fact that the Greek Cypriot Side is continuously being awarded despite being the side playing for time at the negotiation table and rejecting solution plans.

Mr Eroglu stressed the need for the international community to see the Greek Cypriot Side’s real intention that lies under its resolution rejecting guarantorship in Cyprus.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Initiative Isa Ilyasoglu said that the Initiative prepares to launch a petition campaign in Germany, calling for the removal of restrictions imposed on the Cyprus Turkish People.

During the visit, Ilyasoglu also presented Prime Minister Eroglu with the 2010 Europe Peace Award.
