President Mehmet Ali Talat has met with the Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos at a working lunch held at the Foreign Ministry’s official residence Palacio de Viana. The President, who is continuing his contacts in Madrid, upon the invitation from the European Union Term-President Spain, will later attend a dinner to be given in his honour by the Turkish Ambassador to Madrid Eder Arat.

Talat gave a conference at the Elcano Royal Institute yesterday, during which he emphasized that there is still an opportunity for the solution of the Cyprus problem.

He however noted that the two sides in Cyprus have differing views on the chapters of Property, Territory and the Guarantees.

The President added that the European Union can’t play an objective role in the Cyprus solution process due to the Greek Cypriot Side’s unilateral membership, and so, it can only help the peace process by providing technical assistance.

The President is expected to return to the Republic tomorrow night.
