Talat meets With Moratinos

As part of his contacts in Madrid in Spain, President Mehmet Ali Talat met with the Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos at a working lunch where the Cyprus issue topped their discussions. In his statement at the end of the meeting, Talat said he is very much hopeful that some initiatives will be taken in favour of the Cyprus Turkish Side during Spain’s European Union term-presidency.

“The Foreign Minister told me that he will meet the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias too and I guess they are going to take up Spain’s possible contributions to the solution process in Cyprus, like we did” he added.

The President noted that Moratinos praised his peaceful mission on the Cyprus issue.
Talat went on saying that the Spanish Foreign Minister made emphasis on the current big opportunity for the solution of the Cyprus problem and expressed his country’s desire to help the peace process on the island.
President Talat and his delegation are expected to return to the Republic tonight.
